VoiceOver not working on iPod Touch

Hello,

I have a 5th generation iPod Touch, 32 GB, A1421 and my VoiceOver and "speak" option for selected text don't seem to produce any sound. I've checked the volume setting, changed the voices, switched to the Siri voice (Siri works just fine), but it's still not working. The interface for VoiceOver works, too. I initially assumed I had my iPod on mute, but no. I think this started when I updated to iOS 9.3.4. I haven't been using VoiceOver on a regular basis, but it definitely worked fine a month or two ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

iPod touch, iOS 9.3.4

Try:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup - Apple Support

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

If still problem there is either a bug in iOS 93.4 or make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
